In the history of Chinese philosophy, dialectics branched into two systems: one system which originated from Lao Zi’s philosophy advocates softness, quietude and nonexistence; the other which originated from The Book of Changes advocates hardness, dynamics and existence. Lao Zi’s dialectics is defensive and self-satisfied, and apt to maintain and be contented with the existing status quo, and to advocate nonstruggle. It exerted a profound influence over the formation and development of the Chinese people’s ideology and culture.
